Advocating for Native Plants

Members of the Monadnock Garden Club recently joined representatives from garden clubs across New Hampshire on a visit to Washington, D.C., meeting with elected officials to build bipartisan support for native plant legislation.

The delegation brought with them New Hampshire's 2026 Native Plant Month proclamation, signed by Governor Kelly Ayotte, and presented it during a meeting with Senator Jeanne Shaheen. Native plants are essential to healthy ecosystems, supporting pollinators, birds, and soil health throughout our gardens and landscapes. New Hampshire's proclamation is part of a national effort, coordinated by the Garden Club of America, to raise awareness of native species and encourage gardeners and communities to plant, protect, and learn more about them.
