A Shared Legacy
A Shared Legacy: The Forest Society and the Monadnock Garden Club
The Monadnock Garden Club was pleased to welcome Jack Savage, President of the Board of Trustees for the Society for the Protection of New Hampshire Forests, as a featured speaker at a recent club meeting.
Mr. Savage presented on "The Legacy and Ongoing Work of the Forest Society and its 99-Year Connection with the Monadnock Garden Club" — a topic that speaks directly to the heart of both organizations' missions. His remarks offered members a deeper understanding of the Forest Society's history and the enduring partnership between the two organizations.
Founded in 1901, the Society for the Protection of New Hampshire Forests is one of the oldest land conservation organizations in the United States. Over more than a century, it has worked to permanently protect hundreds of thousands of acres of forestland across the state, advocating for sound land use policy and connecting communities with the natural landscapes that define New Hampshire.
The Monadnock Garden Club has long shared that commitment. For nearly 99 years, the two organizations have worked in parallel — and at times in direct collaboration — toward a common goal: preserving the natural beauty and biodiversity of New Hampshire's forests and landscapes for future generations.
Mr. Savage's presentation was a meaningful reminder of what sustained partnership between civic and conservation organizations can accomplish. The club is grateful for his time and insights, and looks forward to continuing this important work alongside the Forest Society.
